Industry Blogs Continued

I started off this blog by talking about the various industry blogs that I plan on following during the course of my internship. As my internship is coming to an end, I have come to learn how important social media sites and social media presence are in fashion and public relations. One of the most effective tools for professionals working in fashion public relations are the numerous blogs and social media websites out there. These blogs are a great way to increase public awareness for your product, fashion line, or brand. The blogs I discussed - The Sartorialist, Women's Wear Daily, PR Couture - as well as others like Who What Wear and Styled On, influence countless followers' style and set trends every season. As an individual who wants to work in the field of fashion public relations, I believe it is incredibly important to be well-versed in the dialogue of fashion blogs and websites like the ones discussed above, as well as to always keep yourself informed and up-to-date on the trends that these sites cover.

Brand Culture

The fashion industry is driven by image more than anything. As an intern in the field of fashion public relations, I've come to understand and appreciate the importance of constantly enhancing and refining the brand's image. In the Entertainment Relations office, I have had the opportunity to witness the company's executives build the brand's image daily. This is done by associating Armani with certain celebrities that essentially serve as brand ambassadors for the fashion and lifestyle line. It's an exciting part of my job to see ideas that are brainstormed and mulled over in the office come to fruition on the red carpet, the runway, and the pages of fashion magazines. I have gained a greater appreciation and understanding for the time and effort it takes to ensure that the brand receives the proper type of coverage and recognition internationally.

Entertainment Relations

I've learned about several different aspects of fashion PR during the course of my internship. Most importantly, I've gained a better understanding of the importance of media presence for the brand. Whether it's having the hottest celebrity photographed in the brand's clothing or participating in fashion charity events, media presence is important for any fashion line's visibility and success. In order to ensure that celebrities are wearing, and in fact, want to wear the brand's clothing, the Entertainment Relations office at which I am interning must constantly maintain relationships with stylists, publicists, managers, and the celebrities themselves. The Entertainment Relations/PR branch of the company must also be abreast of all media related events and happenings. I've realized that being detail-oriented, planning in advanced, and most importantly being organized are integral qualities that are necessary for working in the field of fashion public relations. I personally hope to cultivate these skills during the remainder of my internship.

Industry Blog

During the course of my internship this semester at Giorgio Armani, I plan on following several industry blogs. These will include: The Sartorialist, Women's Wear Daily, and PR Couture. I feel that all three blogs will enhance my understanding of the industry, as well as keep me up to date on industry trends and events. Each blog presents different aspects of both the fields of fashion and public relations. The Sartorialist, for example, is a very visual and aesthetically driven blog. The blog comments on men's and women's clothing from all around the world, as well as on popular culture. Women's Wear Daily and PR Couture cover both the business and creative aspects of the industry. I am confident that my knowledge about fashion PR will increase significantly during the course of my internship, and will be supplemented as I read these blogs.
